We invite PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, early-career scientists and Principal Investigators across sub-Saharan Africa to contribute to an advanced manuscript on rapid and molecular diagnostics for ESKAPE pathogens in Africa.

About the manuscript
The proposed manuscript is entitled:
“Rapid and Molecular Diagnostics for ESKAPE Pathogens in Africa: Linking Antimicrobial-Resistance Detection, Laboratory Capacity and Stewardship Implementation.”
The manuscript concept, framework and substantial foundational work are already established. We are now seeking collaborators who can contribute additional expertise, critical analysis and regional perspectives.
Areas of expertise
We welcome collaborators with expertise in areas such as:
- Antimicrobial resistance and ESKAPE pathogens.
- Clinical microbiology and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
- Molecular and rapid diagnostics.
- Pathogen genomics and genomic epidemiology.
- Antimicrobial and diagnostic stewardship.
- AMR surveillance and laboratory systems.
- Implementation science in African health systems.
Authorship
Authorship will be based on substantive intellectual contribution.
Reuben S. Maghembe will remain the last and corresponding author. First authorship has not yet been assigned.
First authorship may be offered to a highly engaged contributor—particularly a PhD student, postdoctoral researcher or early-career scientist—whose contribution to evidence synthesis, scientific development and manuscript writing justifies that position.
Expression of interest does not automatically guarantee authorship. Final authorship and author order will reflect documented contributions.
Longer-term vision
This initiative is intended to go beyond a single publication. We hope to establish a network of African researchers with complementary expertise who can subsequently develop:
- Multicountry AMR and pathogen-genomics studies.
- Genomic surveillance projects.
- Collaborative grant applications.
- Doctoral and postdoctoral collaborations.
- Longer-term African-led research partnerships.
Expression of interest
Interested researchers should send a short expression of interest containing:
- Name, institution and country.
- Current position or career stage.
- Main research expertise.
- A brief description of relevant AMR or pathogen-genomics experience.
- Areas of the manuscript to which the applicant could contribute.
- Two to five relevant publications or projects, where available.
- Interest in future collaborative research and grant development.
